Mounties formally identify Canadians killed in Algeria attack

OTTAWA – RCMP are confirming that the remains of Ali Medlej and Xristos Katsiroubas, both from London, Ont., were among those found at the site of a deadly terrorist siege in Algeria.

Medlej and Katsiroubas are believed to have played key roles in the January attack, which killed at least 38 hostages and 29 militants.

Police are releasing no other details, but asking for the public’s help in their ongoing investigation.

The Mounties are asking anyone who has information about how the pair left Canada to contact them.

Even small bits of information about the two could help the investigation, they say.

The RCMP say they are concerned about Canadians being radicalized to the point of turning to violence and need help from the community to fight this.
