Fire responses getting faster

Fire crews are the fastest they’ve been in five years, but despite the big improvement Aldermen still want them to do better.

Officials are attributing the speedier service to improved speaker systems at stations, and a new pre-alert system.

Last summer, the city was asked to look at increasing or re-structuring fire department resources, after it was reported crews were struggling to meet ideal response times.

Alderman Diane Colley-Urquhart tells the Calgary Herald, they’ve been slow in investing in the fire department, focusing instead on police.

Changes still to come include improved technology like a digital time counter and scrolling address boards near trucks to visually cue firefighters.
