It’s difficult to object to Enbridge’s pipeline reversal plans in Eastern Canada

People in Eastern Canada who have objections to the reversal of an Enbridge pipeline are finding they have an unusually high number of hoops and barrels to jump through to file their objections with the National Energy Board.

Line 9B, a 37 year old pipeline that runs from Sarnia, Ontario, through to Montreal,  currently carries light crude westward.  With the reversal, it would carry Alberta bitumen east, while at the same time increasing capacity by 25 per cent.

Snaking its way through 100 cities and towns, as well as crossing a number of major rivers and streams, the plan has its share of detractors.

But those against the change to the pipeline have to fill in a 10-page application form stating how they would be directly affected by the change. The Globe and Mail notes even experienced environmentalists are finding it difficult to locate the application on the NEB website.

John Bennett of the Sierra Club of Canada tells the newspaper:  “I think they are just trying to make it as difficult as possible.”
