Water main repairs continue

It could be Wednesday before a stretch of road in Bankview will re-open fully to motorists.

Thursday, crews found a large void under 17 Avenue and 14A Street southwest and began working on it Saturday.

Once they got a good look they discovered more issues had to be fixed.

A seven metre portion of a cast iron water main that was installed in 1910 will be replaced with PVC pipe.

Once exposed, crews found sections of the storm main and sanitary main made of old clay tile pipe were cracked and broken.  Those will be replaced as well.

When that is fixed the road will have to be patched up.

One house, one business and one four-storey apartment building have been left without water.

The city has is advising of possible detours:

– northbound Crowchild Trail motorists are being advised to use 33 Avenue or Bow Trail
– on southbound Crowchild Trail, south of Bow Trail, motorists are being asked to use 33 Avenue S.W.
– motorists on southbound Crowchild Trail at Kensington Road are being asked to use Bow Trail or Memorial Drive.
