Sunday is Earth Day and a Calgary church is taking a rather unique approach to the day set aside to recognize the environment and the planet we share.
Pastor John Pentland of the Hillhurst United Church will be blessing bicycles as part of his service.
Pastor Pentland tells The Calgary Herald that Earth Day is a great way to start paying attention to the care, protection and sacredness of Mother Earth.
As for bicycles, Pastor Pentland says they symbolize freedom and playfulness, and the fresh air awakens and enlivens the body.
The non-denominational blessing of the bikes takes place Sunday at noon at the Hillhurst United Church in Kensington.
