Nighttime drivers on the Deerfoot can expect a major detour for the next couple of days.

Street sweepers will be busy working to clean up winter sand along the roadway.

Starting Wednesday evening, motorists on southbound Deerfoot Trail between 17th Avenue and Southland Drive will be rerouted to Blackfoot Trail.

The detours will take place Wednesday and Thursday night between 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Electronic signs will be set up to alert drivers of the closures, and police escorts with flashing lights will warn that sweepers are cleaning shoulders up ahead.
