CP train derails in central Alberta

Several agencies are investigating the derailment of a CP freight train in Central Alberta early Sunday morning.

At around 3:50 a.m., approximately 17 cars went off the tracks just east of the town of Provost, Alberta.

“There were no injuries to the crew involved, no environmental concerns, no public safety issues and no regulated commodities involved in the derailment,”  CP’S Kevin Hrysak, spokesperson said.

“Safety is our first priority so all the necessary safety precautions will be addressed before cleanup commences,.”.

The Transportation Safety Board is one of several crews investigating the incident, but it’s still too early to determine a cause.
