A pipe band greeted runners Sunday afternoon as they crossed the finish line at the Calgary Police Half Marathon.

Around 1,700 people participated in the run, which started and finished at Mount Royal University.

The Calgary Sun reports, participants observed a moment of silence before the race, in tribute to those killed and injured at the Boston Marathon.

Race Director, Superintendent Guy Slater, says the event was a success and a great community builder for both the running community and police.
