A Calgary man who created Canada’s only shelter dedicated solely to men struggling with domestic abuse is being mourned by friends.
Earl Silverman was found dead last week of an apparent suicide.
Silverman was forced to close his shelter, the Men’s Alternative Safe House, last month because he could no longer afford its upkeep.
He had used his own funds to operate the centre out of his home.
Friends say he was frustrated the government wasn’t doing anything to help and felt male victims of domestic abuse weren’t being recognized.
