Local charity gets massive donation

The Calgary Foundation hopes sharing the story of a local philanthropist’s $117-million gift will inspire more giving.

The money is the largest charitable donation ever given to a Canadian community foundation.

Former Calgary Flames owner and businessman Daryl K. Seaman or “Doc” was behind the generous donation to the foundation.

Foundation President Eva Friesen calls seaman a motivator, mentor and trailblazer, who brought people together to make incredible things happen.

Seaman passed away in 2009.
