City preps for river cleanup

As volunteers roll up their sleeves for a spring cleanup this weekend, the city hopes one day soon it won’t be needed.

Last year, volunteers collected more than 5,700 kilograms of waste at the annual Pathway and River Cleanup, a significant increase from the previous year.

City parks spokesperson Kym McCulley tells The Calgary Herald, we need to be working towards having hardly any litter at all.

Experts will be sifting through what’s collected this year, identifying and recording what exactly Calgarians are tossing away.

Officials hope to create specific awareness campaigns to help reduce waste.
