Do you have a business that produces high amounts of greenhouse gasses?
Who you gonna call?
No, not Ghostbusters but Brad and Rebecca Rabiey of Peace River.
The young couple are finalists for the Emerald Awards in the small business category.
They have a farm that produces not grain, livestock or dairy products, but has been dubbed a carbon farm.
In 2007, they turned the tilled land on their plantation into a tree farm. For companies wishing to off-set their carbon inprint, they can have a tree planted on the farm for two dollars, or — for $15 a tonne — companies can buy a carbon credit.
The Rabiey’s give the business a certificate outlining how many trees were planted to off-set their carbon emissions.
According to the Calgary Herald, their business has become so big they are now working with other land owners to expand the project. They have also begun talks aboard.
