Woman saved from abduction attempt

Some Good Samaritans helped prevent a woman from an an attack in the city’s northeast Saturday night.

It all unfolded just before 7:30 in the 400 block of Falconridge Gardens.

Duty Inspector Darrell Hesse tells 660News, a 19 year-old woman was walking when a group of men in their twenties drove up in a vehicle.

“At some point one of the men in the vehicle left the car and engaged in what appears to be a physical confrontation.   There are allegations this male attempted to put the female victim into the car but it was interrupted by some independent witnesses in the area that intervened,” says Hesse.

He says police don’t believe the victim knew her attacker.

Officers spotted the vehicle about 40 minutes later and took several suspects into custody.

There’s no word yet on possible charges.

This comes on the heels of two other alleged assaults.

The first happened Thursday evening around 6:30 in the southwest.

Police say a 14 year-old girl reported being grabbed by a man from behind in the area of 5th Street and 50th Avenue.

She hit him and escaped, managing to run toward a nearby school.

Police say the suspect is described as Caucasian, 16 to 20 years old, approximately, 6′ tall, with a slim build.   It is believed his face was covered and that he had blue eyes.   He was wearing dark, washed-out blue jeans, a black, long-sleeve shirt and dark blue Nike running shoes.

In another case, a 21 year-old woman was attacked early Saturday morning while riding her bike in the northwest.

It happened in the 2-thousand block of 3rd Avenue around 3 a.m.

A man got out of a vehicle and groped the victim, who fought off her attacker.

According to police, the suspect is described as being possibly of Middle Eastern descent, in his mid-20s, approximately 6’ tall with a thin to medium build and brown skin.    He had short, black curly hair and stubble on his face.   He was wearing a light, collared dress shirt, a dark jacket and dark jeans.   He fled in the small, light-coloured vehicle.

Police are still hunting for suspects in both incidents.
