A message from the Calgary Fire Dept. – put out your open fires.
At 10:00 p.m. Saturday, CFD issued a Level Three Fire Ban, which includes all open flames including fire pits.
The move was made due to the extremely low humidity, combined with anticipated dry and warm winds.
District Fire Chief Allan Ball explains what is still allowed.
“The only fires allowed now are in gas stoves, barbecues (liquid-fuel), but no open fires in the city,” he said.
If someone is spotted with a fire, they will be asked to extinguish it.
Ball added the ban will remain in effect indefinitely until the city gets some precipitation.
Firefighters have been keeping an eye on hot spots throughout the day at Edworthy Park which had a massive fire Friday.
Crews were also busy in the area of Country Hills Blvd. and Deerfoot Trail Saturday night, battling a fire about the size of two football fields.
No buildings were threatened and firefighters were able to get it under control.
That was unfortunately not the case for a two-story home in De Winton Saturday afternoon, which was destroyed by a blaze around 2:30 p.m.
There were no injuries.
