Council approves plain talk policy

Calgary politicians are trying to be more straight-forward and clear.

A city committee has approved a policy that tells bureaucrats they need to speak directly to their audience, in a conversational tone, and provide information that meets Calgarians’ needs.

The Calgary Sun reports the policy was put in place after alderman Druh Farrell asked for simpler language.

Farrell says it’s not only about simplifying language, but about being more inclusive.

Alderman Diane Colley-Urquhart disapproved of the policy, arguing they were wasting time with the issue.
