Public feedback wanted for financial windfall

What would you do with $52 million?

That’s the question Calgary city council is posing to you, the taxpayer, as council deals with surplus funds from the province.

Politicians have narrowed the possibilities down to five — including building up the city’s transit ways, business tax breaks, community infrastructure, dropping the city’s debt — and putting the cash back into citizens’ pockets.

Mayor Naheed Nenshi says the question will be debated over the lunch hour in the Devonian Gardens on Tuesday May 28th.

He says, “The other thing is that the City has a number of unfunded priorities, things that Calgarians have told us are important to them, so we thought this was an opportunity to have a brief public engagement to ask the public what they think to get some input onto this decision before council meets to make the decision in July.”
