Long weekend charges and tickets

Police are frustrated the public is not getting the message about safety on the road.

Alberta Sheriffs and RCMP issued 5,039 charges over the May long weekend.

That’s down slightly from the amount handed out last Victoria Day weekend, but police still aren’t satisfied.

Most of the charges, nearly 4,000, were for speeding.

Fifteen people were nabbed for impaired driving.

Alberta Justice Spokesman Brendan Cox says it’s nice to see the hard work of officers paying off but we can always do better.
