Gay youth camp gets funding boost

A boost in provincial funding is giving the green light to a gay-friendly summer camp in the Cochrane area.

Camp fYrefly is receiving $50,000 in provincial lottery money.

Edmonton’s Camp fYrefly is celebrating 10 years in operation and co-director Kris Wells says it’s time to expand.

Wells tells The Calgary Sun, the camp provides a positive environment away from homophobia and teaches invaluable lessons in leadership and self esteem building.

Youths 14-24 can take part in the workshops that run from July 11-14.
