Water levels rise as rain falls

Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resources has issued a number of high stream flow advisories as the south western portion of the province deals with deluge of rain.

Anywhere between 30 to 60 millimetres of rain has already fallen in the upper Bow and Oldman basins.

High stream flow advisories, which mean water levels are on the rise are already in place for all rivers and streams upstream of Lethbridge and Calgary, which includes the Bow, Elbow, Oldman and Sheep rivers.

Renee Hackney with ESRD tells 660News the river monitoring centre is now operating around the clock and in the coming days, flood warnings and watches could be issued.

Calgary could receive up to 100 millimetres of rain by Saturday morning.

People who live in Bragg Creek, Okotoks, High River, Black Diamond, Canmore and Sundre are the most likely to experience high water issues in the coming days.
