Fundraising records were shattered at the 49th annual Scotiabank Calgary Marathon, as more than 12,000 people ran through Stampede Park under a sunny sky.
The 76 charities registered raised over $930,000, surpassing the target of $800,000 and last year’s total by about $200,000.
But another record was broken as well.
Ten Calgary runners on “The Mito Team” broke a Guinness World Record running the entire 42.2 kilometres tied together with surgical tubing, and finishing the race with a time of 2:55:23, the fastest time ever.
The race winner was Benard Onsare from Calgary for the second year in a row with an impressive time of 2:28:53.
