A temporary crossing on Interstate 5 in Washington State is going to be up sooner than expected, after last week’s Skagit Bridge collapse involving an Alberta trucker.
Investigators believe the collapse was triggered when an approved oversized truck, driven by 41-year-old William Scott from Spruce Grove, struck steel beams on the bridge.
The truck is owned by Calgary-based Mullen Trucking.
State officials now say it’ll be weeks, not months, before traffic is moving again on the highway and Governor Jay Inslee says a temporary span should be in place by mid-June.
About 71,000 vehicles use that stretch of highway every day as the major thoroughfare between Vancouver and Seattle.
