Concerns about the plan to end homelessness

The CEO of the Mustard Seed is seriously wondering if the ten year plan to end homelessness will actually happen in Calgary.
Lyall Thomson says they can not find affordable housing locations in the Beltline and Victoria Park communities. The Centre Street area is being revitalized by the City and the Calgary Stampede is expanding its presence as well.
“We do believe in the ten year plan to end homelessness, but the issue from us is we got a lot of pressure from people saying we do not like the looks of that, we want to build new buildings, condo buildings and hotels and more power to them that they want to do that, but it does put more pressure on our homeless people, our poor people that come to us for service every single day,” said Thomson.
Thomson says even with the government chipping in 70 per cent of affordable housing project costs, they cannot find locations or come up with the remaining 30 per cent.
