CTF supports Rathgeber

Members of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation are rallying around Edmonton -St. Albert MP Brent Rathgeber.
Rathgeber resigned from the Tory caucus Wednesday night after his private members bill aimed at improving government transparency was revised before third and final reading.
The CTF uses the word ‘gut’ to describe the change made to Bill C-461.
CTF Director Gregory Thomas finds it amazing that at the last minute three Tory members of the committee were replaced and the section that would have required the salary and job descriptions of civil servants making over $188,000 a year to be posted was upped to over $400,000.
“It’s absolutely disgusting that the government would gut a piece of accountability legislation in order to keep taxpayers from finding out what senior government employees do and make,” said Thomas. “What are they trying to hide?”
Thomas is urging Canadians to call their MP and demand the rejection of the committee’s amendment.
“We know these committee members got hundreds upon hundreds of emails over the past couple of days on Bill C-461 and it’s doubtful even a single one of them asked the government to be less transparent and hide more information,” continued Thomas. “Not one witness, nor one committee member even spoke to why increasing the threshold was a good idea. Probably because they couldn’t think of even one good reason.”
