Oilsands ads working

Oilsands companies are using TV, print and online ads to try and sway the “mushy middle” of Canadian public opinion and it just may be working.

Millions of dollars have been spent touting the national, economic and social benefits of the oilsands, and combating critics worried about the risk of spills and greenhouse gas emissions.

Public affairs director Greg Lyle tells The Globe and Mail, when people are given new information they are willing to consider changing their minds.

A new poll finds overall opinions do shift slightly to the positive after people are given oil proponent messages.
