City puts cap on 17th Avenue

City council has put a cap on the number of bars in the city’s core in an effort to snuff out The Red Mile, before it gets out of control.
A unanimous vote recommended watering holes not cover more than half of any block in Mission, Cliff Bungalow, Lower Mount Royal and the Beltline.
The decision is a blessing for residents near 17th Avenue who have been increasingly complaining about drunk and disorderly behaviour in the neighbourhood.
Mayor Naheed Nenshi tells The Calgary Sun, he wants to look to other cities to see how they dealt with similar problems.
