New program targets dropouts

A new program aims to cut Calgary’s high school dropout rate in half in the next five years.
According to Statistics Canada nearly 25 per cent of young people in Alberta don’t finish high school on time, ranking Alberta near the bottom compared to other provinces.
“All in for Youth,” launched Wednesday by United Way of Calgary, will attempt to bring students who’ve left back into the classroom.
The program will also provide youth with tutoring, mentors, and career advice from local employers.
Nine schools in Calgary will be offering the program this fall.
