Time is ticking for cabs to install security cameras

City cab drivers have just over a week to install security cameras, or they could face a stiff fine.
A new bylaw says taxis must have the cameras or shell out $700.
The Calgary Sun reports the idea behind the move is increasing the safety of drivers and passengers, especially at night.
The city’s chief licensing officer Marc Halat says only five per cent of the city’s cabs are without security cameras at the moment.
The Taxi and Limousine Advisory Committee is also looking at making safety shields mandatory.
