Barricades blocking off Macleod Trail, into downtown Calgary, won’t be in the way of traffic Wednesday morning.
On Tuesday, Mayor Naheed Nenshi set the re-opening for 5 a.m..
But, Nenshi is encouraging only local traffic to use the road.
According to the City of Calgary, 4th Avenue, 5th Avenue and 6th Avenue, including the 4th and 5th Avenue flyovers, should also be welcoming local traffic on Wednesday for the first time since they were shut down because of flooding.
Several traffic lights remain without power in the core, and many homes in the city are also without electricity.
But despite the outages, Mayor Nenshi is reminding people to be responsible when using a generator.
This comes after two people in Bowness had to be treated for carbon monoxide poisoning.
“Crews report to me, as we are spending time in the neighbourhoods doing these assessments, a very, very large number of people are running generators and pumps inside their house. Don’t do that,” says Nenshi.
As for water quality, Nenshi adds tap water remains safe to drink, despite the City hearing concerns from residents about the smell and taste.
