Federal disaster dollars could take years

It could be years before federal clean-up money makes its way to flood-ravaged Alberta.

Premier Alison Redford says the government’s track record suggests it could be a long wait before the cheque is signed.

According to The Globe and Mail, the federal government paid out $129-million after flooding in 2005 but the majority of that money wasn’t seen until April 2013.

Public Safety minister Vic Toews has said the Canadian Government will do whatever it can to assist Albertans in rebuilding their communities.
