Trans-Canada, many campsites open for long weekend

Some good news for flood weary southern Albertan’s looking to get away to celebrate Canada Day.

All four lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway through Banff National Park are open this weekend.

However, drivers are being told to expect delays between Highway 40 and Canmore and again between Canmore and Banff, because of lane restrictions and a reduced speed limit.

Calgary’s so-called mountain playground, Kananaskis Country, won’t be open for the weekend.

The closure impacts a number of recreation areas and hundreds of campsites, but people with reservations can get refunds.

Despite the recent flooding, a number of other campsites in Southern Alberta are open for the weekend but there could still be some access issues; for details click here.

Calgarians looking to sing “O Canada” on July 1st are being reminded the party that was planned for Prince’s Island Park has been move to Shaw Millennium Park downtown.
