AHS Executives to get bonuses after all

It appears 99 Alberta Health Services executives will be getting their bonuses after all.

Health Minister Fred Horne, who fired the 10 member AHS board over the issue earlier this month, quietly approved $3.2 million in bonus payments late last week.

The decision — based on the advice of Janet Davidson, the interim AHS administrator appointed by Horne to replace the board — has been greeted by derision by the opposition.

Alberta Liberal leader Raj Sherman wonders if Davidson will be fired next.

“Is he bowing down to Janet Davidson now that she’s told him the same thing?,” wonders Sherman in the Calgary Herald’s online edition. “Or is he going to fire Janet Davidson?  This is either … politcal theatre or a political mess.”

Sherman’s counterpart with the Wildrose, Calgary MLA Heather Forsyth, says the timing of the news is rather interesting.  She notes it comes out on a long weekend when much of Southern Alberta is pre-occupied with the recent floods.

Davidson based her input on the matter on legal obligations faced by Alberta Health Services.
