High River evacuees could be housed in Calgary within two weeks

A temporary housing camp for flood evacuees from High River, Kananaskis, Canmore and Calgary should be complete within two weeks.
Construction of the camp in the Great Plains Industrial area in the city’s southeast began Saturday. It will mainly cater to people from High River where a second temporary housing camp is being considered near the Cargill meat-packing plan.
Shane Schreiber, who’s in charge of getting people back in their homes in the flood-ravaged town, tells the Calgary Herald the goal is to get people off cots in evacuation centres such as the ones in Blackie, Nanton and the University of Lethbridge.
Meantime, Mayor Naheed Nenshi says Calgary also plans to help residents of the Siksika First Nation where about 250 homes have been damaged, and 800 residents displaced.
