It’s the last thing Calgarians want to hear, but a severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Calgary and area.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Matt Albers says the rain is on its way.
“With these storms, since they are slow moving, 30mm’s can be expected with maybe locally heavy amounts so we are concerned with local flooding,” Albers says.
There could be up to 50mm’s of rain fall as the slow moving system may hang over Calgary. Hail and ferocious wind could also hit the city hard.
This comes after flash floods in Sunnyside, Bonnybrook and parts of the downtown Friday night after between 10 and 20 mm’s of rainfall.
Fire Battallion Chief Ernie Molineaux tells 660News rain or shine they are ready.
“We will go where we are needed. We respond throughout the city for these types of calls. These storms are fairly isolated when they hit with this intensity so depending on where it is we will respond accordingly,” says Molineaux.
Molineaux says they’ve gone through a lot of equipment in the floods, but staff is able to handle it.
Other areas that can expect rain include Airdrie, Cochrane, Olds, Sundre, Brooks, Strathmore, Vulcan, Drumheller, Three Hills, Okotoks, Claresholm and the epicentre of the worst floods in the provinces history, High River.
