As Calgary continues to recover from June’s flooding, donations into the United Way’s Calgary branch have been incredible.
Rallying together, corporate businesses and individuals have raised $500,000, on top of the $1-million the non-profit had in its emergency fund.
President and CEO, Lucy Miller tells 660News they’re holding a meeting Wednesday to talk about where this cash will go.
Some options: “The City of Calgary, the Calgary Foundation, the Red Cross, then some of the big agencies in the city and together we are working on a coordinated response to the needs over the next several months,” she says.
She notes that companies including Canadian Oil Sands, Devon Canada, Enerplus, Shell Canada and, Suncor Energy stepped up to the plate to contribute most of the donations.
United Way is also extending their online donation deadline until July 31st and any money raised will go into their emergency fund.
