Eyes on 2013 draft picks at Flames Development Camp

The 2013-2014 NHL season might be months away, but you can get your first look at Calgary Flames’ prospects this week.

Development camp is underway from Winsport at Canada Olympic Park.

On ice sessions continue until Tuesday, July 16th with 44 prospects – five goalies, 12 defencemen, and 27 forwards – 33 of which are property of the Flames.

Sportsnet960 The Fan’s Andrew Walker, says the biggest names to watch are Calgary’s 2013 first round picks.

“It was tapped as the biggest draft in Flames history and all of a sudden, three big new names are in. You know, what are we going to see from Sean Monahan, the big centre?” says Walker, who notes Monahan was selected sixth overall by Calgary, from the OHL’s Ottawa 67’s.

“Emile Poirier is a bit of an unknown coming out of the Quebec league in Gatineau, he can fly. Then Morgan Klimchuk who was taken at 28, so our first look at those three guys is going to be a big story.”

A few familiar names are also on the ice including Johnny Gaudreau, Ben Hanowski, Roman Horak, Sven Baertschi and Max Reinhart.

All sessions are open to the public.
