Parks Canada building destroyed by fire

A building at the Banff National Park gates managed to survive a flood, but not a fire.

The 40-year-old Parks Canada Staff Accommodation facility was destroyed by the blaze Wednesday morning, snarling westbound traffic on the Trans-Canada Highway.

The building was undergoing extensive renovation after the floods, but now officials say it’s beyond repair.

The Calgary Sun reports the replacement cost is estimated at $300,000.

No one was in the building at the time of the fire.
