Wildrose puts forward recommendations following flood

While blasting the Redford goverment for not doing more to mitigate flood damage in the province, the leader of the official opposition has rolled out 22 recommendations to deal with the most recent battle with high water.

Danielle Smith says a big reason why there was so much destruction from the June floods in Southern Alberta is because the province failed to implement recommendations from previous floods.

Smith says before the goverment looks at relocating impacted homeowners and businesses it needs to explore all options to reduce the flood threat.

The Wildrose is calling on the Redford goverment to address it’s flood mitigation infrastructure deficit before the next flood season in 2014.

It’s also calling for a hard caps on the financial compensation that will be made available to homeowners and businesses and for the province to start rebuilding the “rainy day” contingency fund.
