Major fracking finding in the States

A major finding in the U.S. related to the process of fracking.

A study finds no evidence chemicals from the natural gas drilling process moved up to contaminate drinking water aquifers at a western Pennsylvania drilling site.

After a year of monitoring, the researchers found the chemical-laced fluids used to free gas trapped deep below the surface stayed thousands of feet below the shallower areas that supply drinking water.

Mark Salkeld with the Petroleum Services Association of Canada tells 660News the findings are no surprise to him.

“High pressured gas and oil that’s been trapped under layers of the earth for millennia, if it were to get to the surface it would get there on its own, the fracking process is just reaching into those zones and opening it up,” says Salkeld.

The author of the study cautions the single study doesn’t prove fracking can’t pollute, since geology and industry practices vary widely.
