Province will hold flood information sessions

It’s been a month since floods devastated southern Alberta, and the province is holding information sessions in affected areas to provide residents with answers to new rebuilding policies.
The sessions will give displaced residents more answers on the new policy released July 14th which states flood victims living in flood ways in affected communities will have the choice to re-locate, or rebuild with funds from the disaster recovery program.
If residents rebuild, they will not be covered by the program in the event of future flooding, and if they choose to relocate, they will be assisted in doing so.
Residents living in flood-fringe areas will only receive future compensation for damages if they rebuild with specific flood-proofing measures.
Associate Minister of Regional Recovery and Reconstruction for High River Rick Fraser says the province is committed to answering as many questions as possible, and the open houses will bring experts directly to residents to bring clarity to homeowners still dealing with the disaster.
The Calgary information session is today at the Blackfoot Inn from 3 PM until 5 PM.
