Charity looking for puppy-raisers

A local charity is looking for dog lovers to raise puppies!

Dogs with Wings is an organization that trains service and guide dogs for people with physical and mental disabilities.

Calgary chapter spokesperson Paula Bildfell says they’re hoping to find more people to take care of the dogs in their first year.

“The more people that are raising puppies, the more people we can help with disabilities.   So it is a full year commitment of caring and helping socialize the puppy to become a service dog eventually,” says Bildfell.

The program primarily uses Labrador Retrievers.

Most recently they’ve placed service dogs to help a boy with Down Syndrome in Calgary and to help a young man in a wheelchair.

The dog will do everything from helping them cross the street to fetching their shoes.
