Powerful storm roars through Calgary

A big storm passed through Calgary Monday night and although no major damage was reported, thousands of residents suffered power outages.
It’s not exactly clear how many homes lost electricity and the communities affected included Thorncliffe, Springbank, Bowness, Vista Heights, Glamorgan and Thornhill.
The storm also kept fire crews busy and while there weren’t any major blazes, four buildings were struck by lightning.
Electrical storms activated a lot of alarm systems in the core and in high-rises, which also kept crews on the go.
Calgary went through a pair of severe thunderstorm warnings on Monday, as well as a tornado watch in the afternoon.
Many parts of southern Alberta were also issued thunderstorm warnings, including Okotoks, High River and Claresholm.
Thankfully, there were no storm-related calls to Calgary police, but many took to Twitter to share pictures and report the loud cracks of thunder and flashes of lightning.
Driving was also affected, as some traffic lights were knocked out.
