City divided on transit project plans

Calgary aldermen are divided when it comes to the future of transit in the city.

Politicians voted down a plan Wednesday 7-5 that would prioritize transit projects based on cost, and put a transitway along Centre Street at the top of the list.

The plans also pushed back the construction of a southeast LRT line.

Alderman Shane Keating says he’s sick of his quadrant of the city being forgotten, and that his constituents deserve their share of transit dollars.

The matter will come back to council for debate in September.
