Canadian Blood Services is putting out the call for help in hopes of filling nearly 15,000 appointments.
The organization is forecasting tough times ahead over the summer in regards to it’s blood supply.
According to CBS, many of their regular donors are on vacation or are heading out of town.
As a result, they’re having a tough time reaching their quota as they try to keep up with hospital demands.
Donor Services Manager Judy Jones says they’re extending their ‘blood signal’ in hoes of keeping inventory at acceptable levels.
“The ‘blood signal’ is just rallying Canadians to answer the call, once you hear the signal, it’s just an auditory signal to let people know that we need you at this time,” she explains.
That signal she adds can be anything from word of mouth to maybe a radio spot.
According to the CBS, blood systems in both the United States and the United Kingdom both issued similar appeals for donors.
They are forecasting a need for 51,000 appointments to be filled between now and Labour Day.
