Westjet posts record earnings

Calgary-based WestJet has done what many experts are calling the impossible, posted earnings for 33 straight quarters.

Independent Aviation Analyst Rick Erickson adds they were able to do it while launching their regional carrier “Encore.”

He tells 660News the airline is being cautious about its current direction and appears to be doing everything right.

“Whether they maintain this pretty strong rate of return, 14 per cent I think is spectacular, that’s a hard call,” he says. “But I do think the airline has enough inherent flexibility in it that they will remain profitable.”

“It’s tough to call because there are variables that these airline managers can’t control,” Erickson explains. “And that is the value of the Canadian dollar, price of fuel and the overall buoyancy of the Canadian economy.”

Looking at the revenues, revenue for the carrier is up 22 per cent compared to this time last year.
