Flood ravaged shops and boutiques in the core want you to know they’re open and ready for business.
They’re featured in a new 3 minute video that explains some of the hardships they had endured over the course of this summer’s natural disaster.
Businesses like Riva’s Eco Store on 9th Avenue Southeast that lost $90,000 of inventory in the basement.
“We knew we had a few feet of water down there,” says owner Andrew Mackie. “It was basically just how many shelves up the water went that dictated how much water we had to deal with”
Debbie Dalen from Pretty Little Things had no idea about the kind of impact there would be until she went without making a sale for 9 days.
Dalen says it’s a nice gesture to support small and upcoming businesses.
“It means a lot more to me know because I realize the businesses that had to close, some of them in jeopardy now would change the whole dynamic of this area (Inglewood),” she explains.
And Mark Kosak from Kidsport Calgary adds it wasn’t just commercial stores that were impacted.
They were kept out of their office for 31 days.
“We rely on people to think about our charity as a place where they want to donate money and when fundraising activities are being cancelled because of other pressing priorities…. you can understand that….but it still affects us,” he explains.
The video was put together by the Calgary Chamber of Commerce.
