It’s going to cost the Alberta government about $10,000 a pop to help homeowners in flood danger zones to meet new mitigation standards.
The province says it will help pay for the measures, which include moving electrical outlets and panels higher, using water resistant materials, sealing piping and wiring conduits where they penetrate through the foundation and installing a back flow system.
As a part of the Disaster Recovery Program, homes in the flood fringe will have a note attached to their property title letting future buyers know of the risk.
That note will be removed only once all mitigation measures are met, which will also qualify the home for assistance in the future should another flood strike.
