Calgary police, a tactical team and a bomb crew are on site at a construction area in the southeast community of Mahogany.
Officers were called to the area shortly before 9 a.m. Saturday after a worker found a rock with detonation cords attached to it.
Battalion Chief John Cherwiniuk says the bomb squad continues to investigate.
“There’s a potential there is something in that rock. Bomb crews are working on it, investigating to determine what’s in that rock. At this time we’re unsure,” explains Cherwiniuk.
The fire department evacuated a 150-metre area around the mysterious rock as a precaution.
