It’s the anniversary of a dark page in human history.
The atom bomb was dropped on Hiroshima August 6, 1945.
The blast on the Japanese city killed around 140,000 people, and left lasting effects on those who survived.
The bombing of Nagasaki three days later killed even more, leading the country to surrender to World War II allies.
Japan is marking the 68th anniversary of the devastating firebomb with a sombre ceremony; by honouring the dead, and making a pledge to help eliminate nuclear weapons.
