Outspoken head of the Canadian Auto Workers union (CAW) Ken Lewenza will step down on Thursday, according to a report from the Globe and Mail.
Lewenza has been president of the CAW for five years.
A press conference will be held at the Sheraton Centre where an announcement will be made regarding the leadership of Unifor — the new union created by the merger of the CAW and the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers union (CEP).
Both Lewenza and CEP national president Dave Coles are expected to speak at the conference.
The Globe says Coles is also expected to announce he is stepping down.
Unifor will represent more than 300,000 workers across the country.
