Crime Stoppers and the RCMP are hoping to solve a cold case involving a sex assault near Banff.
They’ll be producing a re-enactment Tuesday morning at the Canmore detachment in the hopes that some tips from the public will help track down their suspect.
Though the alleged attack happened over six years ago, on April 26, 2007, they’ve got a lot of details about the driver of a white semi, including the license plate.
At about 8:30pm on that date, a young woman was hitch hiking from Banff when she accepted a ride from a man driving a white tractor trailer unit. Instead, the driver stopped just west of the town where he forcibly confined and sexually assaulted the victim.
She managed to escape and sought help from a passing vehicle.
the suspect’s vehicle is described as a white “reefer” truck, early 1990’s, possibly with stripes (that may be red), with a dark grey interior and a blue and white license plate number 987 DCP.
The suspect is described as white, about 50 years old, heavy set with grey curly hair and a short beard at the time. His name may have been Ron or Roy.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
